The Heart Surgeon

By Chet Nowlen
Yesterday I felt inspired to write an article for my BLOG titled “Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled.”  I think the reason I felt inspired to write the article is because of the dream that I had the night before.  I think the Holy Spirit sometimes talks us through dreams and the dreams are not always pleasant, however, even though the dream may be unpleasant the dream is designed to get our attention.
In my dream I was a heart surgeon and I had a patient that needed to have heart surgery, but I was disturbed with the patient because he would not do what was required for my office to schedule the surgery.  I have to make frequent trips to the bath room and night and every time I went back to sleep the same dream started again over and over, which caused me to be quiet disturbed as to why I would dream such a dream.
I remember talking to my wife the day before about Jesus’s words found in John 14 “Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”  Because of this conversation with her the day before caused me to assume this is why I had the dream. But, what bothered me was why I dreamed that I was a heart surgeon and why did I have this dream over and over again.
While driving to work yesterday I was still thinking about the dream and then all of the sudden I understood the dream.  I was the heart surgeon, but I was also the patient who was not doing his part for the surgery to happen.  In John 14 Jesus said “Let Not”... Jesus cannot do the “Let Not” for me - He is saying it is my job to “Let Not my heart be troubled or afraid.”  The problem was I was not doing the my part, the “Let Not”.
My job as surgeon is to repair the damage to the heart by helping the patient change his way of thinking.  To train him how to do the “Let Not” in order for his heart be troubled or afraid.  Why does Jesus want us not let our hearts be troubled or afraid?  It’s because when our spirits are troubled or afraid in certain areas of our lives we have been rendered ineffective in those areas.  When we are ineffective we have choked or clogged the arteries of blessings from coming to us in those areas.  We have also choked the blessings from flowing from us to others we come in contact with everyday.
The Holy Spirit revealed to me that it is my ministry is to be a heart surgeon to those that read my BLOG and who I come in contact with daily.  He revealed to me that it is my calling to teach what He has revealed to me the things that are designed to not only change my heart, but also those who He sends my way through the reading of the articles and those that I talk to.

Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled

by Chet Nowlen

The evening before Jesus was to be arrested He gave His disciples some specific instructions on the importance of protecting or guarding their hearts.  Of course He was not referring to the physical heart, but the mind heart which makes up the thought life, our will, and our emotions.  When the mental heart is under stress then the physical heart is also affected.  Stress causes a variety of sicknesses and disease (dis-ease or un-ease), i.e., high blood pressure and constipation just to name a few.  Just those two conditions lead to stress on the physical heart and a substance build up in the arteries that can cause heart attack and stroke.  Doctors do not have a pill that will heal the problem with your emotional heart therefore all they can prescribe for you are pills to treat the symptom of the problem.

We have a tendency to trust doctors to help us with our sickness and I do go to doctors myself.  I'm not saying we should never go to doctors, but what I am saying is we should look for the root cause of sickness and disease and then seek the peace that only Jesus can give.

“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me". John 14:1-3 NKJV

"Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." John 14:26-28 NKJV

Jesus is expressing the importance of guarding our heart (our mind) by not letting it be troubled and to not let it be afraid.  The Bible mentions the heart this heart 926-times, trouble 235-times, troubled 65-times, do not worry 7-times, do not fear 51-times, do not be afraid 48-times, take no thought 5-times in King James version, anxious 7-times, anxiety 4-times, worry 8-times, afraid 214 times, and cares of this world 2-times.

Here are some scriptures to meditate on this week that will help us change the condition of our hearts which will bring healing to our mind and body:

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;..." Philippians 4:5-7

"Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, But a good word makes it glad."
Proverbs 12:24-26

"I sought the LORD, and He heard me, And delivered me from all my fears." Psalm 34:3-5

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. 1 John 4:17-19

The GraceCard

I love to watch movies on DayStar's Parable TV channel.  One of the recent movies that I've enjoyed is The GraceCard.

Movies have become our strongest media of education.  Unfortunately the movies coming out of Hollywood are becoming increasingly anti-Christian.  Movies can subconsciously affect the way we think, what we believe, and how we act towards one another.

The Bible teaches us to guard our minds which means to guard our minds from negative influence.  Our minds, will and emotions are greatly affected by the types of TV shows and movies we fill our minds with.  I highly recommend that you watch this particular movie because it's a well made Christian film that is about faith, forgiveness, love, and family values.

Please write me and let me know your thoughts about the movie at mywelldone@me.com .

The GraceCard
Everything can change in an instant...and take a lifetime to unravel. Every day, we have the opportunity to rebuild relationships by extending and receiving God's grace. Offer The Grace Card, and never underestimate the power of God's love.
